I fired up a game last night. Was enjoyable, with the exception of the horrible lag when there are big battles. The client net code doesn't seem too reliable when there's a buttload of units on the screen at once.

I do miss the block-strike tactics of the first game. This one seems a bit more of a button masher. Still, I had a decent enough time with it.

Straith, think we'll try it again at NW?

Well, to bring our email convo here instead so we can share...

I feel they butchered the game. The original had a great deal of freedom to strategize. In Savage 2, they railed the players into their little boxes. It might make for a decent game at NW, dunno. I'll try it though.

Combat does seem a little more "on rails", especially given the blocking system of the former game. Though you can still block in the current system, it doesn't feel as inuititive. Maybe i'm missing something though.

Combat changed from attack vs block to rock/paper/scissors. Regular attack loses to block which loses to heavy attack which loses to regular attack. Its just retarded overall. You can't strategize your attack. You just mash buttons and hope you guessed right.

Most people still seem to utilize only the attack/block buttons, so a lot of the same strategy can still take place. I think people forget there's that dash-attack button on the right-click.

Or I do. Which would explain why I die so often, come to think of it.

I don't know, I kinda like the combat system, I thought it was a bit more even playing ground. I hated how suckulicous the summoner was compaired to the savage.

I like the roles you play, it makes it much easier for new players (though I never get anyone to play it, as m4stermel just wastes everyone the bastard, I blame him for killing this game for me :) ) and is similar to other "role" based games (ETQW for example) Maybe I should start this back up, when I'm not playing borderlands or L4D2
