DV8 is a local club up in SLC that has housed a huge number of great bands, some of which I've actually seen there.
It burned down yesterday which makes me a bit sad, a bit. It's a little club, with just one extra tiny floor that you gotta be 21+ in order to get to, a small dance floor and itty tables n chairs all around.
It's cramped, small, hot and not well ventulated, but I liked seeing shows there probably more then any other place. They where good shows, great sound and the closeness gives a more persnonal feel then seeing shows at the E center or whatever the Delta center turned into (energy solutions center? )
Anyways I thought I'd list some of the bands I've seen there, at least ones I remember, and some that have come that I missed, in no particular order then what I can drudge up from my memory.
- Ministry
When they finaly stopped doing drugs long enough to make decent music. This was a long time goal, as I've been a fan of Ministry since I think the 10th grade. (14 years?) It was awesome, absolutly awesome.
- Gravity Kills
This was EoS's first concert, and we made him crowd surf as well. We met these guys before and after the show, what a kewl bunch of dudes. Then they vanished. A shame cause man these guys where good, and where on like every cheesy action flick of the 90's (Mortal combat and escape from LA come to mind)
- Love and Rockets
Good Ole 80's band formed from the remaining members of Bahuas after Peter Murphy left to do his own thing. (well after they quite being Tones on Tail that is)
Anyways, BR met Danial Ash when the guy was looking to use the Head. BR at the time didn't even know who the guy was, as he looks rather different in person then on the picture box. I remember this one cause I dicided it was a good idea to dress like a pierced pirate. Silly pirate shirt, bandanna, chain going from nose ring to ear, plethera of earings and rings and chains and other such nonsense. But no makeup.... I had my line I wouldn't cross.
- Type O Negative
Yeah... they are even bigger in real life then you would belive, and what a nice band. At least I thought they where, always appologizing for there sweet metal music. Besides the greatness that's type o negative, it was just kewl seeing them in person.
- My Life with the Thrill Kill Cult
I've seen these guys way to many times, alot like KMFDM, but I did see them once at DV8, it was some random show and I went on a lark. I liked it, and they are always better live then on an album.
There was another band I saw here that I cannot remember their name anymore, I made Pimpstra go with me, some random band I picked up their CD cause I liked their cover art, and they turned out to be pretty darn good, but for the life of me I can't remember them. Their opening acts just insulted everyone and called them names then asked us to request them on the radio.... yeah that's gonna happen. Anyways if anyone can remember any other show's they've seen here you should post em up.
There's one show that I wish I could of gone to, more then anything, and was probably one of the kewlists shows there, but I had to work that night, and everyone else went instead.
